CUSTOM ORCHESTRA TEMPLATES
“There was a somewhat sketchy digital period where things didn’t sound so good, but now we’re figuring it out. The basics, talented human beings playing together in a room, haven’t changed ”
Hans Zimmer
WHAT IS A TEMPLATE?
A Template is a selection of pre-configured, routed and pre-mixed instruments ready to be used in our DAW.
The characteristics of a Template will depend on the musical genre to which it will be focused, the number of instruments that we want to have available and the power of our team.
WHY USE TEMPLATES?
All its advantages could be summarized in just one: the improvement of the workflow.
When we are composing we do not want to browse through our entire library of instruments in search of the sounds that best suit the project at hand. Even less stop to edit them. None of this is desirable.
In addition, it seems to make sense to create a Template if we always use the same instrument palette due to our musical style, since we will only need to open it to have everything loaded and configured as we like.
WHY USE VEP 5?
A program that has played an important role in the development of the music industry for audiovisuals has been Vienna Ensemble Pro 5. This application allows you to connect several PCs by network cable, thus increasing the total capacity of our equipment. Although a small Template could run perfectly in a DAW without the help of any slave PC, we could say that when it comes to managing large Templates, VEP 5 has become a standard.
The developers are proud to have managed to make this handle the loading of Virtual Instruments better than the sequencers themselves. This, together with the great capacity of today’s computers, gives us a power never seen before in a single computer, and even more with several!
With VEP 5 we will open the Template only once and we will be able to compose all day. One of its great advantages is that it allows us to switch between projects or even DAWs, without having to wait for the full load of our entire selection of instruments. With load times in RAM of more than 15 minutes this is appreciated, especially when there are deadlines.
The bad news? Building a professional Squad requires knowledge, time, and effort. And this is where I can help you.
WHAT EXACTLY CAN I DO FOR YOU?
The phases in which the creation of a Template takes place. Not all of them are necessary.
- Template Planning: Selection of libraries and joints; decide the number of slave PCs
- Advice on buying bookstores
- Hardware: Design a computer that fits your needs
- Software: Installation and configuration of the necessary software
- Slave PC configuration
- Choose instruments
- Customize Patches and Multis
- Create the Template in VEP 5 and in the DAW
- MIDI and Audio Routing

INFRASTRUCTURE
I can do the template creation by personally visiting your studio, or totally online by remote control and sending high-quality sound via VST Connect Performer.
Although I work mainly on Cubase 8.5, I could build a professional template based on any of the major sequencers on the market.
